What the spec sheet means in practice

Displays

Closed, the Duo is a 5.4-inch phone that is wider than an iPhone 18 Pro (84.1 mm against 71.9 mm), shorter (117.8 mm) and thicker (11.3 mm): closer to a small paperback than to a slim slab. Open, it is a 7.6-inch tablet that is 5.2 mm thin, thinner than any iPhone Apple has made. Both panels run at 120 Hz with always-on, so the outer display shows the lock screen widgets you would expect from a Pro model.

Chip and memory

The A20 Pro is the same 2 nm chip as the iPhone 18 Pro, paired with 12 GB of RAM instead of 8 GB. The extra memory is there for Split View: two full apps side by side on the inner display without reloading.

Cameras

Two 48 MP rear cameras, no telephoto. Duo Preview lets the subject see themselves on the outer display while you shoot with the main camera, which is the foldable's real photography trick: rear-camera selfies with the best sensor.

Battery

Apple quotes 31 hours of video on the inner display and 44 on the outer. Real-world use mixing both should land around a full day and a half. 60 W wired charging is the fastest on any iPhone; the charger is sold separately.

What is missing

Face ID (replaced by Touch ID), a telephoto lens, a SIM tray and a charger in the box. Apple Pencil support is promised for later this year, not at launch. If any of those is a deal-breaker, the Dutch comparison pages put the Duo next to the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Galaxy Z Fold 8.

iPhone Duo specs: questions

Does the iPhone Duo have Face ID?
No. The iPhone Duo uses Touch ID built into the side button, like the iPad Air. Apple has not said why; the most likely reason is that the TrueDepth module does not fit in the 5.2 mm open profile. Apple Pay, app logins and unlocking all work with the fingerprint sensor.
Is there a telephoto camera?
No. The rear has a 48 MP main and a 48 MP ultra-wide camera. The 2× option is a crop from the 48 MP main sensor with optical-quality results; beyond that it is digital zoom. If you rely on 5× zoom, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the better camera phone.
How visible is the crease on the inner display?
Apple describes the hinge as having a "minimal crease" and the inner display has a nano-texture finish that scatters reflections, which also hides the fold line. Early hands-on reports say it is visible at an angle and invisible when looking straight on. We will update this after our own review.
Which display do you use most?
The 5.4-inch outer display is a regular narrow phone: messages, maps, payments, calls. The 7.6-inch inner display is roughly iPad mini width when open and is where Split View, reading and video happen. Apple rates battery at 44 hours of video on the outer display and 31 hours on the inner one.
Does the iPhone Duo support a physical SIM?
No. Every iPhone Duo worldwide is eSIM-only, including the Dutch model. All Dutch carriers and most European and US carriers issue eSIMs. Dual eSIM is supported, so two numbers can be active at once.
Does the iPhone Duo work with the Apple Pencil?
Not at launch. Apple says support for the Apple Pencil (USB-C) arrives later this year via a software update, on the inner display. Apple Pencil Pro and the 2nd-generation Pencil are not mentioned.
What comes in the box?
iPhone Duo with iOS 27, USB-C charge cable (1 m). No power adapter. To reach the 60 W wired speed (50% in 20 minutes) you need a 60 W or higher USB-C PD charger, such as Apple's 70 W adapter or any good third-party GaN charger.
